Who we are

Loess Hills Funeral Home is dedicated to providing families we serve with the very best in accommodating facilities and professional associates who are attentive to the needs of you, your family and friends.

Malvern Location History
Located on the corner of Fourth Street and Marion Avenue in Malvern, Iowa, the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was the first “funeral home” in Mills County, and the place in which the Hertz family got their start in funeral service. Roy Mansfield founded the business in 1919, and in 1933 he converted a large home to serve as a funeral home with a spacious chapel, large garage and preparation room. In 1997, the existing structure was completely remodeled with the addition of a larger chapel, expanded offices, and a basement lounge. Special needs are met by accessing the ramp and parking area located on the southwest side of the building. In addition to on street parking, a large parking area is available south of the handicap parking area.

Carson Location History
In October of 1986, the Hertz family purchased the McKee Funeral Home in Carson, Iowa which was established in 1945 by Lloyd and Iris McKee. The McKee-Hertz Funeral Home was remodeled and eventually outgrew the existing building. In 1997, the Hertz Funeral Home was built on the corner of South Oak Street and U.S. Highway 92. Nestled among the rolling hills of Eastern Pottawattamie County, the building’s functional chapel allows seating for 200 people. Its “main level” design allows visitors with special needs to navigate freely throughout the building without steps or other obstacles.

Glenwood Location History
Located at 112 North Vine Street in Glenwood, Iowa, the Raynor-Hardiman Funeral Home was purchased by the Hertz family in October of 2001. This expansion brought the two oldest funeral homes in Mills County under one name and allowed the Hertz family to better serve families from Glenwood and the surrounding communities. Extensive renovations were made which included a complete overhaul of the existing structure as well as the addition of a spacious chapel, reception hall, and offices. The largest funeral home in Glenwood offers families a warm and comfortable setting. The chapel has a seating capacity of 200 and the building allows for an additional 175 or more. The main level can be accessed by one of five entrances including two handicap accessible ramps. The south entrance allows families to park and enter the lower level where a conference room, casket selection room, offices, restrooms, and family reception hall are located. The fellowship hall is the only on-site hall available in Glenwood and provides families a place to gather before and after funeral services. With its separate entrance, the hall offers a complete kitchen, handicap restrooms and banquet-style seating for 60 people.

Monument Sales History
Hertz Monument Sales has a large indoor showroom located at 312 Main Street in Malvern, Iowa. Sales offices are also available at the funeral homes in Carson and Glenwood. Hertz Monument Sales is a complete monument company with the ability to design and build memorials ranging from the simply stated to the complex.

Scott Erickson was hired by Terry Hertz on April 1, 2011 to manage the Hertz Funeral Homes and the Hertz Monument Sales Company. Scott purchased the funeral homes and monument business on August 1, 2011 from the Hertz family.

On March 19, 2012, the businesses were renamed Loess Hills Funeral and Cremation Center. Scott continues to offer the same caring and compassionate service for families in the communities and surrounding areas. He is also a great source for families who have questions about funeral services, cremation options, advance planning and monuments.
