Marvin Thayer, 72 of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away at CHI Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs on November 12, 2020. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson, IA with Pastor Michael Slininger officiating. VISITATION will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Carson Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson is caring for Marvin and his family.

Marvin was born on November 18, 1947 in Hamburg, Iowa, a son of Isaac and Ola (Pope) Thayer. In May of 1965, he graduated from High School in Fairfax, Missouri. On July 20, 1967, Marvin accepted the call to Military Service and inducted into the Army of the United States for service to Vietnam as a Transportation Operator. His employment included EXCEL Corp; D&L/Romech; American Games, and most recently a School Bus monitor with First Student Transportation.
Marvin's first marriage was to Wanda Lou (Million), Mother of Tammy, Matt, and Kelly; Second Marriage Belinda (Goos), mother of Chad; and third Marriage Mona (Snapp). On May 22, 2015, Marvin married his current wife Tanya (Donney).
As a little boy, he had a calf named stallion, which he rode like a horse around the farm. Marvin really enjoyed working hard every day and was an avid Pop Can Collector. Marvin enjoyed fishing, Gardening, especially growing huge tomatoes. Towards the end, Marvin was a man of faith and prayer and loved spending more time with his family.
Preceding Marvin in death, his parents Isaac and Ola; son Chad Thayer; Brothers John and Douglas Thayer; Sisters Helen Thayer and Hope Elaine Wynes.
Marvin is survived by his wife Tanya (Donney); daughter, Tammy Hansen of Atlantic, IA and grandchildren, Reo Croson, Allyson, Zoe Hansen, and Diamond Rae; son Matt & Shawn (Gilbert) Thayer of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Brandon & Haleigh Thayer; son Kelly & Melissa (Austin) Thayer of Minden, IA and grandchildren, Torie & Becca Thayer; sister Lola Mae (Thayer) & Gary Sons of Shenandoah, IA. In-laws, Terry (Donney) Brokman of Council Bluffs; Tim Donney & Jackie (Degerpont) of Pennsylvania; Tam Donney of Council Bluffs; Tom Donney & Patty (Herbert) of Sturgis, SD; Thad Donney & Teresa (Jones) and Lynette (Byron) Maynes of Carson IA; many nieces and nephews and other relatives; and a host of friends.
