Homer Hammers, 90, passed away at the Garden View Health Care Center in Shenandoah, IA on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 in the Martin Chapel Cemetery, rural Pacific Junction, IA. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1st, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood, IA. Cortege will leave for the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood is caring for Homer and his family.

Homer Lugene Hammers, one of seven children of Evelyna "Lena" (Tallent) and Clyde Charles Hammers, was born on January 5, 1931 in Glenwood, Iowa. He grew up and attended the country schools of Elm Grove, Burr Oak and Pacific Junction in Mills County, Iowa. Following school, Homer worked until he joined the United States Army on April 17, 1951. He served in Korea and was discharged on January 17, 1953.
Homer and Dorothy Marie Frain were married in Louisiana and were blessed with four children, Clyde Arthur, Marcella Jolene, Nathan Lugene and Lorie Ann.
Homer and Effie Iona (Good) Fisher were married on April 21, 1968 in Grants Pass, Oregon and were blessed with two children, Nancy Ellen and Sheila Faith. Homer's family grew to include Effie's children, Joyce, Michael, Richard, Johnny, Betsy and Jeffrey. They lived in the states of Oregon, Louisiana and three years in Texas before making their home near Stanton, Iowa in 2001.
Homer worked construction and at the packing house in Omaha, Nebraska. He enjoyed raising hogs and hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Homer passed away on February 23, 2021 in Shenandoah, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Effie Hammers in 2011; daughter Marcella Hammers, at age 17; step-sons, Richard Fisher, Howard Stewart, Randy Childs, and Michael Fisher; step-daughter Joyce Stewart; sister Rovena Hammers; and brothers, Charlie Hammers, Donald Hammers, Samuel Hammers, Milo Hammers and Joseph Hammers.
Homer is survived by his children, Clyde Hammers, Nathan Hammers, Lorie Hammers, Nancy Fisher, and Sheila Jones; step children, Johnnie Fisher and wife Donna, Betsy Childs, and Jeffrey Wesson and wife Dena; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
