Kay Harriett Walter was born November 5, 1939 in Hamburg, Iowa to Eldon and Lilah (Hudson) Allen. She grew up in Farragut, Iowa with her parents. Later in life, Kay would recount the special times she spent with her devoted grandparents, Ernest and Ruth Hudson of Farragut. Kay attended school at Farragut Community Schools, graduating from H.S. in 1957. She was interested in choir, theater, participated in band and basketball. Shortly after graduation, Kay married her high school sweetheart, Gilbert Walter on September 13, 1958 at St. Mary's Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Tricia, Trudy, Allen and Aaron.

With her kids growing older, Kay made the decision to go back to school and attend Jeannie Edmundson Nursing School in Council Bluffs. She graduated in 1981 and worked in both the hospital setting and later in home health care. She was right at home attending to those in need. Kay loved gardening, cooking, painting and visiting Arizona until she and Gib bought a winter home in the Phoenix area. The one thing that never changed was family always came first.

Kay's faith was paramount in her life. After moving to Glenwood in 1958, Gib and Kay became active members of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Glenwood, Iowa. Kay taught youth ministry (CCD) and was involved in faith formation at Holy Rosary Church. She sang in choir and was eager to share her faith with others in the community. Kay was blessed to be an active member of the church. A devoted supporter of St. Albert Catholic Schools, she served on the St. Albert Catholic School Board and remained active as a School Ambassador in her later years.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, her infant brother Douglas Allen, her parents Eldon & Lilah Allen, her in-laws, William and Marie Walter. Kay is survived by her children, Tricia & Mark Sullivan, Trudy, Allen & Michelle, Aaron & Lisa; grandchildren, Quintin Moreno, Lindsay & Luke Sullivan, Blaine & Blaire Walter, Madison & Jackson Walter; great grandchild Mora Moreno; extended relatives; and a host of friends.

As we will miss Kay, we are encouraged by the words of St. Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. We believe, as Kay did, that eternal life is for all who believe in the Lord and love & obey Him. We will continue the race and meet you once again.
