Fern Jones, 94, of Mineola, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville, NE. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at St John Lutheran Church in Mineola, IA. Burial will be in the Mineola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood is caring for Fern and her family.

Fern Marie Roenfeld, one of three children of Catherine Margaret (Wagner) Roenfeld and Albert August Roenfeld, was born on May 27, 1929 in rural Glenwood, Iowa. She grew up on a farm west of Mineola, Iowa and attended Letal country school through the eighth grade. Fern then moved into town where she worked for her room and board while attending Glenwood High School where she graduated in 1946. Following school, Fern worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Schoening Motors in Mineola where she met her future husband.
On August 20, 1949, Fern and Willard Gale Jones were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. Willard and Fern made their lifelong home in Mineola. Fern worked two years at the Mineola State Bank until becoming a full-time mother to their three sons, David Lynn, Robert Alan, and Mark Eugene.
Fern and Willard were active members of St. John Lutheran Church where Fern served as church secretary and ALCW treasurer, and Willard on the church council. She was also a member and has held the office of treasurer of the Mineola Legion Auxiliary. Fern's enjoyments include spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, making quilts and tea towels, gardening along with canning and freezing the produce. Fern and Willard were married for 66 years.
Fern is preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard; brother Albert Roenfeld and his wife Elva; sister Betty Feller and her husband Richard; brother-in-law Leroy Jones and his wife Joanne, Gerald Jones; sister-in-law Jean Connor and her husband Charles Everett.
Fern is survived by sons, David Jones and his wife Julie of Cedar Creek, NE, Robert Jones and his wife Patti of Beaver Lake, NE, and Mark Jones and his wife Peggy of Columbus, NE; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Janet Jones of Silver City, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of many special friends.
