Elsie Jane Vermuele, daughter of Laura Ellen (Snook) Malloy and Perry Allen Malloy, was born on January 13, 1928 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
In 1947, Elsie and Newton Clay Salmons were married and made their home in Missouri. Their marriage was blessed with five children, James, Donna Rae, William, Carl, and Barbara. Elsie and Newton later divorced.
In 1964, Elsie met Cecil Warren Vermuele in Council Bluffs, IA. They were later married on November 5, 1968 in Papillion, NE. Their marriage was blessed with Cecil's six children, Pamela, Cathy, Debra, Cecil Jr., Bruce and John, and Elsie's four children, Jim, William, Carl, and Barbara. They made their home in the Iowa towns of Malvern, Hancock, Avoca, Council Bluffs, and Minden where Elsie enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and Cecil worked as a farm hand and a maintenance man. In the fall of 1990, the family returned to Malvern. Elsie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Missing Children's C. B. Club. Her enjoyments included fishing, writing poetry, crocheting and doing craft work. Her greatest enjoyment was her family. Elsie and Cecil had been married 35 years at the time of Cecil's death on January 30, 2005. Elsie continued to live in her home in Malvern where she died on August 24, 2006, at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 11 days. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Donna Rae Salmons; brothers Lawrence and Charles Harland and Adrian Puttin; sisters Edith Thurman and Janie Malloy; grandsons Jeremy and Carl Salmons, II and granddaughter Billie Jo Salmons; great grandsons Jason, Matthew, Alexander, Jeremy and Aaron Salmons. Elsie is survived by her children; Jim Salmons and wife Vicki of Council Bluffs, IA, Pamela Hunt and husband Rich of Osage Beach, MO, William Salmons and wife Rexanna of Malvern, Cathy Clarahan and husband James of Las Vegas, NV, Carl Salmons and wife Sherry of Minden, IA, Barbara Winchel and husband William of Council Bluffs, Debra Coleman and husband Charles of Malvern, Cecil Vermule, Jr. and wife Julia of Council Bluffs, Bruce Vermule and wife Linda of Fort Jennings, OH, and John Vermuele and wife Tricia of Council Bluffs; brothers, Everet Harland and wife Lollie of Davenport, IA, Lewis Malloy of Idaho, William Malloy and wife Betty of Sigourney, IA, Duane Malloy and wife Kathy of Decatur, AL, Earl Malloy of Blytheville, AR and sisters Barbara Turner and husband John of Washington, IA and Carrie Sowash; 33 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
